Expose Yourself to History!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a look at \u201cthe history of going at sea,\u201d in a time before flushing toilets \u2013 and even toilet paper. The exhibition is comprised of text panels shown exclusively \u2013 and appropriately \u2013 in the public restrooms of The Mariners\u2019 Museum<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition features a series of four panels exploring some aspect of making do at sea. The panels draw heavily on the art of Walt Taylor, political cartoonist for The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topics include why the facilities \u2013 or lack thereof \u2013 were called \u201cthe head,\u201d; the wisdom of keeping tabs on wind direction, and how sailors improvised before toilet paper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
